The proceeds from this fundraising will be used for the following cause(s)
Funds raised through this initiative will be used for four main causes
Replacing outdated equipment
Funds will be used to replace aging and worn-out equipment that no longer meets the needs of our athletes or current safety and performance standards. By providing high-quality club owned rental equipment, we can ensure that skaters have access to the resources they need to safely develop their skills while significantly reducing financial barriers to participation.

Increase current equipment inventory
Funds raised will also be used to expand our current equipment inventory, allowing the club to accommodate growing participation and offer programs ranging from grassroots learn-to-skate initiatives to high-performance training. This funding will help us continue providing affordable, accessible skating opportunities to more members of our community while ensuring participants have access to the equipment they need to succeed.

Improve safety
Support for updating our equipment will enhance athlete safety and help reduce the risk of injury during training and competition. BSSC is committed to fostering a fun, inclusive, and safe environment where skaters can develop both their skating abilities and valuable life skills. Funding will enable the club to replace and upgrade essential safety equipment and protective padding, ensuring our training environment continues to meet the needs of athletes at all stages of development.

Aid in skater development
The benefits of this initiative extend beyond equipment upgrades. Access to high-quality equipment provides athletes with the resources they need to develop their skills, build confidence, and train safely and effectively. By investing in quality equipment, we can support skaters of all ages and abilities in reaching their full potential while fostering long-term participation and athlete development.

How this project will assist in promoting
or developing amateur sport on a national
level.

The Barrie Speed Skating Club provides grassroots programming that introduces children and youth to speed skating while creating pathways for long-term athlete development. By reducing financial barriers, the project increases participation, improves athlete retention, supports volunteer coach development, and helps more athletes progress to regional, provincial, and national levels of competition. Investing in accessible community programming strengthens Ontario's speed skating system and contributes to the continued growth of amateur sport in Canada.
