St. Catharines Rowing club - Growth and Support Fund
Project Description
The St. Catharines Rowing Club has been an integral part of Niagara and the City of St. Catharines for 120 years. Our history of offering competitive and recreational rowing programs to anyone interested regardless of gender, skill level or ability to pay has provided thousands of athletes the opportunity to row, be it just for fun or to compete locally, nationally and internationally at World Championships and the Olympic Games is truly legendary. The purpose of this fund is to ensure the St. Catharines Rowing Club continues to provide the very best rowing opportunities possible, to recruit and train dedicated coaches and to ensure our athletes have access to excellent equipment and a safe, well-maintained facility.
The proceeds from this fundraising will be
used for the following cause(s):
Funds raised will be used to:
• finance athlete recruitment and outreach.
• provide financial support to athletes attending national team level try-outs and regattas.
• provide fee support to athletes for whom fees may be a barrier to participation.
• support payment to coaches including recruitment, education, and conference attendance.
• purchase and maintain equipment.
• ensure a well-managed facility maintenance and upgrades.
• offer volunteer training.
How this project will assist in promoting
or developing amateur sport on a national
level.
Support from the Growth and Support Fund will allow the St Catharines Rowing Club to move forward and expand programs from the Youth Rowing Camp and Junior Development Program to all levels of competitive rowing including Under 17, Under 19, Under 23, Senior and Masters rowers and to reach out to groups previously underrepresented because of barriers such as finances and transportation.
It has become clear, especially since COVID-19, that the era of dedicated and well qualified volunteer coaches is ending. Because of major time demands and increasing certification requirements, coaches require some level of financial support. This fund will help to provide that support.
Funds raised will ensure that the St Catharines Rowing Club continues to be a major player at all levels of rowing from learning to Canada’s National Team.
