249 - The Argonaut Rowing Club

Diversity, Inclusion and Growth Fund

Project Description

The Argonaut Rowing Club, the second oldest Rowing Club in Canada, has been a fixture on the Toronto waterfront since 1872. With a rich history of developing athletes to compete at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the ARC is evolving, placing more emphasis on the importance of physical activity for life. Our new Diversity, Inclusion and Growth Fund aims to make it easier for greater numbers and varied populations who wouldn't traditionally consider rowing, to try the sport.
This multi-year initiative has been designed to help the ARC to meet the new needs of the general population while continuing to encourage excellence in the sport.

The proceeds from this fundraising will be
used for the following cause(s):

• To finance outreach programs,
• to provide support for those for whom membership fees are a barrier to participation,
• to support the Martha Coffey Junior Development fund developed to encourage excellence in rowing, leadership, mentorship and inclusion of all junior members
• for equipment, including but not limited to rowing, training and safety,
• for facilities maintenance and upgrades,
• for training volunteers,
• to finance program maintenance and expansion

How this project will assist in promoting
or developing amateur sport on a national
level.

Financial support from our Diversity, Inclusion and Growth fund will help our club expand our programs to allow us to reach more and diverse populations to offer the benefits of rowing to those who would not traditionally consider our sport. In doing so, the ARC will have a larger, more culturally-representative base of athletes who can follow our structured pathway of programs for athletes, coaches, umpires and volunteers based on the Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L)/Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model. With the help of this funding, ARC will inspire a lifelong passion for the sport of rowing and will support members to achieve their personal level of excellence.
