Granite Renewal - Phase One

Project Description

Original request was; To Refurbishing and enlarging the front entrance to the clubhouse thereby providing access to the disabled; construction of new ground floor accessible washroom facility, meeting rooms and office.
During the course of 2018, the Granite identified a number of additional equipment purchases and building modifications. Which were required to meet regulatory requirements and to reduce electrical costs. These new items are:  
1.Purchase and installation of ice mistress in order to continuously monitor ice conditions and control compressor and heaters.
2.Modify garage to accommodate water and ice making equipment (to separate water and high voltage); pouring concrete floor, install new door, insulate and drywall, run water line to garage.
3.Replace ceiling in lounge area and install flush mounted LED lighting.
4.Install front and rear door monitoring system with screens in managers office and bar area.
5.Generator rental and electrical work to save the ice during power outage caused by tornado
6.Buy and install fire resistant door between compressor room and ice shed.

How this project will assist in promoting
or developing amateur sport on a national
level.

The Granite Curling Club is in its 65th season. It instituted the first Rookie Rocks program in Ottawa whereby adults can learn or relearn the sport. The Club currently has over 100 young people from ages 6 to 16 engaged in learn to curl programs and participating in provincial and national competitions.(Lisa Weagle being a graduate) The club co-sponsors the annual Junior Super Spiel wherein junior curlers from Canada, USA and Europe compete. This project will maintain and improve the ability of the club to provide a venue for all members to continue to enjoy curling recreation-ally and allow our competitive teams the opportunity to better compete provincially and nationally.
