NBCC Boat Renewal

Project Description

Replace existing, aging racing shells and coach boats with new ones.

The proceeds from this fundraising will be
used for the following cause(s):

Purchase of several new racing boats, aluminum coach boats and outboard motors.

How this project will assist in promoting
or developing amateur sport on a national
level.

The North Bay Canoe Club (NBCC) has experienced growth over the past two years to the point that the current fleet of racing boats needs to be renewed and increased to allow for continued development of these new paddlers. Several of the racing boats used by NBCC athletes are over 30 years old and are not competitive with current models. Many of these boats are also beyond repair. Replacing these boats with new models will ensure athletes can train consistently and be competitive in regattas.

Similarly, several of NBCC's Coach boats and outboard motors are over 30 years old. The boat transoms have worn out and several other hardware components like eyelets, rivets and seams have broken over the years. The boats and motors need to be repaired frequently but repair costs can no longer be justified. Replacing them will ensure that paddlers can be reliably and safely accompanied by a safety boat so that training programs can be executed without interruption.

NBCC is committed to continue developing amateur athletes to achieving success at the provincial, national and international level. Maintaining a reliable and competitive fleet of racing boats and coach/safety boats is fundamental requirement to make that happen.
